Johann Hermann Schein
Johann Hermann Schein (1586-1630) was a predecessor of Bach as Thomaskantor in Leipzig. His Cantional, a collection of settings of Lutheran hymns for congregation and choir use, served as the basis of the hymnal Neu Leipziger Gesangbuch, published in 1682.
