Hans Leo Hassler (1564-1612) was an organist and composer who served in Augsburg, Nürnberg, and Dresden. His Psalmen und Geistliche Lieder, published in 1608, contains 71 choral settings of Lutheran hymns. Hassler was succeeded as Kapellmeister in Dresden by Michael Praetorius.
